The Niagara Hamilton Branch alongside the Ontario Youth Pipe Band are organizing a one day March Break Kick-Off camp for players 18 and under. There will be morning sessions for pipes, snare, bass and tenor, then a craft activity followed by lunch, and then a further group band session.

There will be a professional contest in the evening that the OYPB will perform at to open the night's events. Many of the instructors from the day will also be performing.

What are the drop-off and pick-up times?

• Drop-off: 8:30am

• Workshop begins: 9:00am

• Pick-up: 3:30–4:00pm

 

Families are welcome to grab dinner at one of the many nearby restaurants in downtown Hamilton, then return to the Scottish Rite at 6:00pm for a short tune-up before students open the 7:00pm recital/contest.

 

Is attendance at the evening recital required?
Not everyone will be able to stay for the recital — and that’s okay. However, students who are able to stay will open the 7:00pm recital/contest with a tune from the workshop.

Do students need to be current or past members of the Ontario Youth Pipe Band (OYPB)?
No. This workshop is open to all eligible players. You do not need to be a past or current OYPB member to attend.

 

What is the minimum playing level required?
Participants should be able to play basic massed band tunes on full instruments (pipes, snare, tenor, or bass).
